Documentation You Will Need for the FAFSA
You will need information from the following documents to complete the FAFSA and other financial aid application forms.
- Your driver's license and social security card.
- Your income tax returns, W-2 forms, and 1099 forms for the previous year. If you are married, you will also need the documents for your spouse.
- Your parents' income tax returns, W-2 forms, and 1099 forms for the previous year.
- Current bank statements and mortgage information.
- Records relating to stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and other investments.
- Documentation of non-taxable income, such as Social Security income, AFDC, and Veterans Benefits.
- Business and farm records.
- Records relating to any unusual family financial circumstances, such as medical and dental expenses not covered by health insurance, tuition expenses at elementary or secondary schools, unusually high child care costs, death, divorce, and loss of employment.
- If you are married, you will need the documents for you and your spouse. For the 2009-2010 award year your 2008 federal income tax returns, 2008 W-2 forms, and 2008 1099 forms. For the 2010-2011 award year your 2009 federal income tax returns, 2009 W-2 forms, and 2009 1099 forms.
- If you are a dependent student, for the 2009-2010 award year you will need your parents’ 2008 federal income tax returns, 2008 W-2 forms, and 2008 1099 forms. For the 2010-2011 award year your parents’ 2009 federal income tax returns, 2009 W-2 forms, and 2009 1099 forms.
