The Financial Aid Process
Federal assistance is provided to those wanting to attend school in the form of grants, scholarships, loans, and employment within the parameters of federal and state guidelines.
Federal student aid is financial help to assist in school-related expenses, such as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and transportation. It is based on a student's financial need.
Eligibility for federal or state aid is based on the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Upon receipt of a valid FAFSA (referred to as the Institutional Student Information Report or ISIR), the Financial Aid Office at your school will determine if you meet the criteria for eligibility for federal and state aid.
Do not assume that you are not eligible for aid; if you do not apply, you definitely will not receive any. A lot of people are eligible for some aid, regardless of financial need.
The Financial Aid Office at your school will ensure compliance with all federal and state guidelines for disbursing financial aid. An award letter will be provided to the student to indicate source (federal and state), dates, and amounts of aid to be disbursed over the academic year established by the school.
